Used boats
Second-hand boat finance
A second-hand boat is financed with a marine loan: a fixed-rate loan with a deposit from 20% of the price.
The one condition specific to used boats is that the age of the boat plus the length of the loan must not exceed 35 years, so a ten-year-old boat can be financed over up to twenty-five.

The 35-year rule
What changes when the boat is not new
Specialist lenders take the boat itself into account, so its age shapes the term you can get. The rule is simple: the age of the boat plus the length of the loan can never exceed 35 years. A five-year-old boat can be financed over thirty; a twenty-year-old one, over fifteen. Knowing this before you negotiate tells you what monthly payment is realistic and saves surprises when the application is assessed.

FAQ
Second-hand boat finance: common questions
How old can a boat be and still be financed?
There is no fixed age limit, but a combined rule: the age of the boat plus the length of the loan cannot exceed 35 years. The older the boat, the shorter the term available.
What deposit do I need for a used boat?
The same as for a new one: from 20% of the price. There is no upper limit on a marine loan, so you can put down as much as you like and bring the monthly payment down. The balance runs at a fixed rate over 4 to 15 years.
Can I finance a purchase from a private seller?
Yes. The process is the same as buying from a dealer or a yard; what changes is the paperwork for the sale itself. We tell you exactly what is needed in each case.
Is marine leasing available on a second-hand boat?
Marine leasing is aimed mainly at new boats. For used boats the usual route is a marine loan.
Do you lend to non-residents?
Yes. You will need an NIE and tax residency in Spain, Portugal, France, Italy, Germany, Belgium, the United Kingdom or the Netherlands.
